PDF Privacy: Browser-Only Processing Versus Server Uploads
Know when a PDF stays on your device and when it is temporarily uploaded to a processing server.
Are all online PDF tools private?
Privacy depends on the actual processing method, third-party scripts and the retention practices of the service.
Local processing
For browser-labeled PDF Workroom tools, selected file bytes are processed on the device. Browser memory and download folders still contain sensitive copies until you clear them.
Server processing
Office conversion, heavier OCR and some repair tasks use a private server worker after explicit consent. Temporary job files are deleted following processing, but network transmission and server access still occur.
Advertisements and document workspaces
Third-party advertising scripts must not run in any context that can inspect selected file contents or page canvases. This site keeps advertisement integrations disabled until an isolated implementation is approved.
Manage downloaded files
A browser download can persist on disk or in synced storage outside the website’s control. Use your device’s security and retention policies for confidential documents.
Questions and answers
Does browser processing require uploading a PDF?
Not for tools explicitly labeled On your device; the page’s libraries can be downloaded separately.
Is a deleted server job also deleted from my computer?
No. Local downloads and backups are managed by your own device.
