PDF Page Sizes: A4, Letter, Margins and Print Layout

Choose between resizing a PDF, scaling content, cropping, margins and booklet printing.

Is scaling PDF pages the same as setting an A4 page?

No. Scaling changes page content dimensions, while fitting content onto A4 or Letter changes the target page canvas.

Common page formats

A4 is approximately 210 × 297 mm. US Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches. Mixed page sizes are common in scans and merged documents.

Choose the right transformation

Use a resize-to-A4/Letter operation to place content onto a standard canvas, or a proportional scale operation when enlarging or shrinking the page itself. A crop hides areas outside its box.

Prepare for duplex and booklet printing

Booklet ordering and duplex flip direction depend on printer settings. First print a small test set, especially with mixed portrait and landscape pages.

Avoid clipping

Preview edges, stamps, page numbers and margins after any resize. Recheck forms and annotations because not every engine transforms them identically.

Questions and answers

Does cropping securely remove hidden data?

No. Cropping adjusts the visible area, not necessarily the PDF objects beneath.

Can all PDFs print correctly after resizing?

No. Printer margins, existing bleed areas and page rotation can affect output.
